OS Patch Management Settings for Server Groups

Follow

The following fields in the Server Groups settings page can be used to configure OS Patch Management settings on endpoints belonging to the respective group.

Windows and macOS Patch Management

This field is used to configure the Automatic Update settings on respective devices. By default, Microsoft/Apple distributes their devices configured to patch any Automatic updates that may become available. As these automatic updates can interfere with the Automox patching process, we recommend disabling Automatic Updates when possible.

Below are the available options for this field:

  • Keep Device’s Setting - Automox does not modify the endpoint configuration for Automatic Updates. Whatever is configured on the endpoint will persist when it is added to the respective group.

  • Disable OS Automatic Updates - Automox modifies the endpoint configuration to disable Automatic Updates. This configuration will persist, whenever the endpoint configuration changes it will be changed back during the next scan.
  • Enable OS Automatic Updates - Automox modifies the endpoint configuration to enable Automatic Updates. This configuration will persist, whenever the endpoint configuration changes it will be changed back during the next scan.

Windows Update Source

This field is used to configure the source from which Windows endpoints will pull updates from. By default, Microsoft distributes their devices to use the Windows Update catalog for pulling updates.

Below are the available options for this field:

  • Keep Device’s Setting - Automox does not modify the Update Source configured on the endpoint. Whatever is configured on the endpoint will persist when it is added to the respective group.
  • Windows Update - Automox will modify the endpoint configuration to use the Windows Update Catalog as its update source. The configuration will persist, whenever an endpoint configuration changes it will be changed back during the next scan.
  • WSUS - Automox will modify the endpoint configuration to use a WSUS server. This option should only be selected if you already have a WSUS environment configured in your domain. When this option is selected a third field will appear as detailed below:
  • WSUS Server Address - This field is used to provide the WSUS server URL that will be used when configuring an endpoint to use WSUS. (ex. http://Lab-WSUS:8530)

Windows Environment Advisory

Please note that these settings can, and often are, configured through Group Policies (GPOs) in a Windows domain/enterprise environment. We do not recommend using Automox and GPOs to configure these settings concurrently. As such, if you are already using GPOs to configure these settings, please select Keep Device’s Setting for the above described fields.
